Is surgery the only option for a ruptured disk? Consider Chiropractic care

Some people think that if they have a ruptured disk, and especially if there is a pinched nerve, the only option is surgery. Actually nothing could be further from the truth. Chiropractic is a very safe and effective treatment for disk ruptures. A Swedish study used 50 patients whose MRIs showed a disk rupture in the neck, along with signs of a pinched nerve. They were treated by Chiropractors, three to five times a week for the first few weeks, then less often as they improved.

The researchers monitored how the patients progressed over three months. After only two weeks, 55 percent noticed improvement, and by three months 86 percent were improved.

Are You A Senior And Don’t Like Going To The Gym? Try Some Exercises At Home.

Researchers in Sweden observed nearly 4,000 60-year-olds for an average of 12.5 years, and monitored how frequently they performed "non-exercise physical activity" such as home repairs, cutting the lawn or hedge, car maintenance, going hunting or fishing, and cycling. While we all know the benefits of regular moderate exercise and the health risks of prolonged sitting, not much is known about the possible advantages or disadvantages of "non-exercise physical activity" or NEPA.

Participants with high levels of NEPA, excluding formal exercise, had a 27 percent lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease and a 30 percent lower risk of death, as compared to the inactive participants.

So if going to a gym and doing formal exercise is not your thing, simply being active around the house can dramatically improve your health.

Secret to better health? Less meat, more veggies

A new French study lends support to the concept that cutting down on meat and dairy products, including cheese and egg yolks, and replacing them with fruits and vegetables could decrease the risk of diabetes. Meat and dairy products trigger stomach acids linked to the development of diabetes. Fruits (such as peaches, pears, apples, bananas, lemons, oranges) and vegetables diminish the effect of stomach acid by creating alkaline precursors that neutralize the acidity. Chronic acidosis, caused by increased acidity in blood and body tissues, reduces insulin sensitivity.

Researchers followed nearly 66, 500 women over a period of 14 years, and found that those with acidic diets were more likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes.

Why Medicating A Fever May Not Be The Best Choice

Many of us grew up learning that when you have a fever, you should take medication to "bring it down". But is that really what we should be doing? Not necessarily.

Normal body temperature is around 98.6F or 37C, give or take a degree or two. For most adults, a fever is considered to be a temperature of over 100F or 37.8C. For a child, a temperature over 100.4F, 38C is considered a fever. Fevers happen when the body goes into "fight" mode in response to disease, illness or stress. Fortunately they usually disappear within a few days.

Many experts have come to understand that fevers are "useful" as a natural defense mechanism against infection, and don't recommend immediately reaching for medication to lower it. In fact, lowering the fever before your body has had a chance to fight can be detrimental in preventing a secondary problem.
